Dhamaal at Dadu’s

The day was Wednesday and the time was just about getting onto 7PM. Our motley gang of five friends & Colleagues (comprising or Anil, Vinod, Bhaskar, Harsha and myself) was making its way into the busy bylanes of Himayathnagar. The destination was a svelte eating joint called Dadu's Mithai Vatika on the Himayathnagar main road. I would christen it as the Gokul of the East  . For those who came in late, Gokul is a popular chaat joint in Koti,Hyderabad. I have been hearing some plaudits about this place and what better way to verify thos claims than verifying it thyself! So all plans were laid out well in advance and before long, all five of us were ensconed on the first floor of Dadu's Mithai Vatika! Continue reading

FIFA World Cup 2006 – Day 6

Day 6 of the FIFA World Cup and ’twas the day when Group H was having its matches. Germany also had a match, their second one of the tournament. Fair to say that I watched none of them! I had been intending to catch the Spain Vs. Ukraine match but unfortunately, I could not :-( . Spain has been a perennial underdog at the tournaments, even though it has some precocious talents and one of the best regional leagues. Imagine a player of the class of Fernando Morientes being left out of the team!!! Ukraine had the talismanic Andriy Schevchenko on their ranks and I thought they’ll fare well…..But the match ended 4-0 in favour of Spain with Goals from Xabi Alonso, David Villa (2) and Fernando Torres.

The other matches of the day were one between Saudi Arabia and Tunisia, which eventually finished 2-2. Up until the 90th minute, the Saudi team was leading 2-1 and were thinking they had the match in the bag…but in the 93rd minute, Tunisia equalised through Jaidi! The last match of the day was between Germany and poland which finished 1-0 in favour of the hosts, the lone goal coming from Oliver Neuville in the 91st minute!
