What Does Google have up its sleeve this Year?

[Update: Due to a silly mistake on my part, this post got deleted! I have re-written it but the Comments could not be! Apologies for that]

The Year: 2000 They came up with: Google MentalPlex

The Year: 2002 They came up with: Pigeon Rank

The Year: 2004 They came up with: Google Lunar/Copernicus Center

The Year: 2005 They came up with: Google Gulp

The Year: 2006 They came up with: Google Romance

The Year: 2007 They will come up with who knows what???

In case you still didn’t get it, here “They” stands for the search giant - Google! They have this funny habit of coming up with indigenous ideas and services on the first day of the fourth month of the year i.e. April 1st. And that day, as many of you might have known, is all fool’s day :-) So all these above-mentioned ‘launches’ were actually pranks played by Google on the audience that is the world. Common people like you and me would fool our nears and dears and friends and at best some dozen odd others. But nothing less than half-of-the-world’s-population would do for the Mountain View based co.

I remember I had posted the Romance bit on the FreeHyderabad forums but I did that only after I found out that it was indeed a hoax :mrgreen: I guess many others didn’t! So, what will it be this year around? Given the humongous choices that Google has, it would be quite difficult to hazard a guess. If I had that kind of vividity in imagination and ingenuity, I would be working for them, won’t I :P So I’ll leave out the guessing part to you readers….go ahead and take a guess at what it will be this year. Remember, you have quite a short time on your hands before it makes its presence on the WWW!!!

My Guess: Google Phone Search - Search for anyone and everyone’s phone numbers. You have the choice of googling for a person’s landline, mobile or VoIP phone number :D

D Day’s Nearing

Some twenty days ago, I’d said that I was moving. Truth be told, I haven’t yet! Due to some unforeseen circumstances and situations, I had to postpone the moving plans indefinitely. And also I wasn’t getting good enough places where I could’ve comfily settled for some period of time. Added to that the fact that almost all of my friends were already settled and either had no plans to move out to another place with me or had no room in their flats for me to move in :P So days turned into weeks and it won’t be long before they turn into months! Thus it was imperative that I find a cosy enough place and thanks to SH, I’ve found one at Raj Bhavan road. And if everything’s hunky dory, I’d be well & truly moving sometime in the first week of April. But well before the monthly-mark of 8th!

Looking forward to that day (not eagerly, though!) It’s not like its an own house or anything…but anyways an adobe’s an adobe *philosophical*

Last.fm [Revisited]

Exactly 316 days, 7 hours, 44 minutes and 41 seconds ago, I had happened to chance upon this social music site called Last.fm and had signed up for it! I even blogged about the site and its features and advantages on that day. But as always is the case with me, all good things are forgotten or pushed to the backburner in a matter of days! So it happened thus with last.fm too. I completely forgot all about it and hadn’t visited it hence. Till today i.e.!

A chance clean-up of WMP led me to the AudioScrobbler plugin and I started wondering wth was it? Then realization dawned and it all came back in a flash - Last.fm…the track listings…the chart-displaying…the audio tagging et al. So here I am, revisiting my profile pages, updating them settings, adding a few friends and some new favorites. I even hanged out a chart at the right for you visitors to have a dekko at my recently played tracks :P

Moral of the story: Leave clues at the least inconspicuous places so that you can retrace your steps!

Summer’s Upon Us!

Itz been quite a few days since the days have started becoming hotter n hotter….and so are the nights! Summer’s well and truly upon us and it seems that it will be quite a hot one this year. And this is the time when not having an A/c really riles. After spending majority of the day at the workplace - which thankfully is nice n’ cool - the journey back home is sorta traumatic and when the time to hit the sack finally comes, it also is nothing short of an ordeal! Nearly an hour or more is whiled away listening to the hum of the ceiling fan and when sleep finally dawns, it is more of a swoon than a snore :|

Know what riles me further? RK mailing from the United Kingdom and boasting away that the temperature there is a measly 1° C!!! Lucky Bugger :evil: chilling off in the cool confines of the British isles when we’re baking away to glory in the 45° C heat! When will winter be upon us??

Why India ’should’ win the Cricket World Cup!

Know why India has a fair chance of winning the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup?? Read on….

Year 1981:

  1. Prince Charles got married;
  2. Liverpool crowned Champions of Europe;
  3. Australia lost the Ashes;
  4. Pope Died; and
  5. 2 years later India won the world Cup!!!

Year 2005:

  1. Prince Charles got married;
  2. Liverpool crowned Champions of Europe;
  3. Australia lost the Ashes;
  4. Pope Died; and
  5. 2 years later India will win the world Cup!!!!

Still not convinced? Here’s some more ‘proof’:

  1. Year 1982: Football World Cup won by Italy!
  2. Year 1983: Cricket World Cup won by India!
  1. Year 2006: Football World Cup won by Italy
  2. Year 2007: Cricket World Cup will be won by India!!!

This is the interesting Email doing the rounds that seeks to raise the confidence in our cricket team and encourages naysayers to start celebrating an Indian triumph! But there’s a small hitch! The year 1981 did not see any Papal death! Pope John Paul I died in 1978 and his successor Pope John Paul II was the Pope until 2005. So the ‘fact’ about the Papal death is incorrect. Secondly, Italy won the Soccer World Cup in 1982 and not 1981! So if the Cricket World Cup were held in 2006, India would have won for sure :mrgreen:

Yahoo! Mail hates Firefox?

Seems that Yaho Mail is averse to users using Firefox for composing mails! Otherwise why would it do this to me?

Mozila Firefox 2.0.0.2

Internet Explorer 7.0

 Preferential treatment aside, let’s presume that this was a one-off network issue. But even after several restarts and retries, the same result stared at me in the face! What can I say about it now?? IE 7….here I come (atleast for Yahoo Mail)!!!

Grub@IndiJoe’s

Ah! How come this skipped my mind entirely? Err..thatz the koschen I should be asking myself, not you! But anyways. the other day a few of us friends got together and decided to try out an hitherto unvisited place. Now such eateries might be few in Hyderabad, but owing to the fact that there was a newly-opened mall in town the numbers were indeed stacked up against us! So off we zoomed off to City Center, the newly-opened mall that I was talking about. More on the mall in some other post….all the eateries were situated on the 6th floor (or was it 5th!!) which housed the BJN Group’s chain of restaurants - Sahib Sindh Sultan, IndiJoe’s, Aromas of China and Firangi Paani. We settled for IndiJoe’s since talk was rife that this place had the yummiest food at decent-enough prices.

windowslivewritergrubindijoes-117a6indijoes6.jpgNow since we were there on a week-day, the place was kinda empty. The ambience was calm and peaceful with just the right amount of lighting and music playing in the background. We were promptly seated and were presented with the menu, which I must say is not as varied as it was made out to be! There were the common Continental offerings like Fondue, steaks & Sizzlers, Mexican spread consisted of especialades, enchiladas, flautas & tortillas whereas the Italian cuisine boasted of Pastas, Pizzas & Lasagnas. Since we were in predominantly conversational mood, we decided upon the quickies i.e. the sizzlers. We partook of Veg. Sizzlers (Priced at Rs.165), Sicilian Pasta with Penee (180), Chicken Sizzlers (180) and Veg. Delight Mexican Combo (180). The last-mentioned was my dish which consisted of rice cooked in traditional Mexican sauce and garnished with melted cheese and a sprig of mint; accompaniment was cottage cheese in tomato and oregano sauce served alongside crispy onion rings and boiled broccoli. Yumm! Food was good, altough my more traditional friends found the sizzlers a bit too hot to handle (or in the case of SHG, too little too less :mrgreen: )

The rates were a wee bit on the higher side as compared to other multi-cuisine restaurants (Six of us racked up a bill of 1300 Bucks!) but considering the fact that it offered Global Cuisine and also coz of the location, it was to be taken for granted. Service was prompt and efficient and both our orders and the checks took the right time to arrive. There was also a Buffet spread that was only for lunch which would have delighted us far better,I’d think so! All said and done, IndiJoe’s would be one place I would visit again - but only after I checkout the others first - but wouldn’t recommend people who crave for more-Indian-and-less-continental fare! For all other multi cuisine buffs, IndiJoe’s is a must-visit-once place.

[Update] Included the Prices of dishes in the post.

IndiJoe’s Global Cuisine - City Center Mall, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad
Ambience: 3 out of 5
Service: 4 out of 5
Food: 4 out of 5
Standard Meal for two: 500 Bucks (Excl. Drinks)
Value for Money: 3 out of 5
