Moi Review’s on IMDB

First things first: IMDB or the Internet Movie DataBase is (in its own words) Earth’s Biggest Movie Database™ and has umpteen bits of information related to movies, casts, crews, production information, DVD releases, reviews, trivia, goofups and almost everything under the sun related to movies. It also has a section for External Reviews i.e. a space for chronicling the reviews of a movie from external sources. It is there that My Wierd Wired World finds a mention for my rather timid movie review of the telugu movie Pokiri!!!

See for Yourselves: IMDB ‘s Pokiri External Review | Moi Pokiri Review

Now I’m no great movie reviewer, but just the thought that one of my review has been mentioned on IMDB (which unlike Wikipedia is an editor-driven site) is what warms the cockles of my heart. Now I’m gonna spend the rest of the evening searching for all other external reviews pages that I’ve found a mention in   Continue reading

Folks in Town

Moi family’s landed today in Hyderabad for a whirlwind vacation. Now that everyone at home (apart from me i.e.) have their summer vacations, they’ve come here to chill out (I doubt that!), check-up on the summer shoppings, look up a few acquaintances, stock-up on the summer niceties and in general have a good time. So itz gonna be a busy week(end) for me considering the fact that Hyd has undergone a sea change since the last time they were here. Its good to be with nears and dears after a long while and I’m gonna savor each and every moment of it.

I talked with them today and explained all about my Blog and my Blogging and forumming activities and that met with the curt rejoinder of “concentrate on ur work”! Previously it was studies and now itz work! Oughtn’t a guy have some freedom of his own

McLarens dominant at Monaco

McLaren

The Monaco Grand Prix of 2007 will be remembered as a McLaren Grand Prix! Not only did McLaren achieve a 1-2 result and their 150th win in its history but they did that in a grandiose fashion. Too bad I couldn’t watch the race fully (had a mourning to attend) but I managed to watch the end part and a point to ponder is that the two McLarens finished the race a whopping 69 seconds ahead of the lead Ferrari of Felipe Massa :o

The top-speed of the McLarens was 290 Kmph whereas the Ferraris stuttered around in the low 286s. Adding to their speed woes was Kimi’s crash on Saturday which effectively relegated him to the back of the grid and even though Kimi drove as best as he could, Monaco’s not a track where one can make up that many places. He ended up a disappointing eighth. Renault’s Fisichella was fourth followed by the two BMW’s of Robert Kubica and Nick Hiedfeld with Williams’ Wurz placed seventh.

But the talk of the day was undoubtedly the McLaren rookie Lewis Hamilton who was fast and menacing through every inch of the track. Twice he managed to close the gap to Alonso in front but the defending champion stove him off to claim a second-successive victory at Monaco. There were reports that McLaren had issued team orders to Hamilton to go slow!

Alonso – Pole ; Kimi – Crashes!

Fernando Alonso stole the Pole position from teammate Lewis Hamilton in the last minutes of Saturday Qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. The street-circuit is a very difficult one to overtake on and by grabbing the pole position, Alonso virtually ensured himself of a win on Sunday. There was a sense of deja vu for Ferrari as Kimi Raikkonen crashed his car at the exact same spot where Michael Schumacher “stalled” his car in last year’s qualifying - a move many said was intentional! Ferrari repeating the same tactic again?? Naah…..Kimi has had is ill-luck follow him wherever he went and added to last race’s disappointment was today’s crash in the qualifying. That effectively pegs him back in the race for championship and Ferrari may hard-pressed to peg Felipe Massa as its title-contender this year.

The brazilian qualified third behind Alonso and Lewis Hamilton and is joined on the second row by Giancarlo Fisichella. Nico Rosberg drove a storming lap for Williams and ended up 5th with Red Bull’s Mark Webber alongside him. Webber’s teammate David Coulthard was punished because of ompeding Heiki Kovalainen and hence was relegated to 16th on the Grid. The two BMW’s of Nick Hiedfeld and Robert Kubica line up 7th and 8th on the grid with the two Hondas of Barichello & Button rounding off the top 10.

I almost never got to see the Qualifying as the cable-op was again upto his old tricks of telecasting useless sports channels instead of the required ones  a quick rap on the knuckles resulted in the telecast being received almost half-way into the Qualifying session. Must remind him to leave it on for tomorrow as well!

Da Metrics

A big thanks to friends, colleagues, acquaintances, passers-by, and all my fans and followers  The Wierdness started off in November of 2005 and a year-and-a-half later, over a lakh people have been witness to it. It just spurs me onto doing bigger and better things. (Though my laziness may get the better of it!) Cheers!!!

Milan triumph against a lacklustre Liverpool

Milan Win

So my predictions come true once again! I’d correctly predicted that Italy would be crowned the Soccer World Cup champions last year and wa rooting for them right from the start. Ditto for the Champions League when I’d maintained from the preliminary stages that AC Milan were the team to look out for this year. And when Milan packed off Bayern and then Manchester United, I was doubly confident that the Rossoneri would triumph in the finals. And they did! Against a Liverpool team that was written off from the very outset, they surged to a 2-1 win in Athens.

I watched the match right from the start and though Liverpool made some neat forays into the milan half and looked like the best team out there, Milan were quietly confident that whenever an opportunity presented itself, they would take it. Liverpool’s Jermaine Pennant and Bodo Zenden were quite a handful on the flanks and though some good chances were created, the finish was nowhere near good. As half-time loomed, Kaka was fouled just outside the box by Xabi Alonso and Andrea Pirlo took the resultant free-kick. Having seen Pirlo’s flawless deliveries in the World Cup, I was thinking that here was a goal for sure…..and it sure was! Pirlo’s curled kick grazing Filippo Inzaghi’s shoulder and rolling into the Liverpool net. 1-0 up and rock-solid in defense, it was all but done for Milan.

The second half was chirpier than the first but a lot of squandered opportunities saw nither team forge ahead. Steven Gerrard had a golden chance at equalising but his shot was saved. Kaka was ably restrained throughout the match but in the 82nd minute, he slid in a marvellous pass for Inzaghi to beat the offside trap and slot in Milan’s second of the night. Though Kuyt pulled one back for Liverpool in the 89th minute, there wasn’t gonna be another fairytale comeback for the Reds. Milan extracted their due revenge and captured their 7th European title. Only Real Madrid with 9 are ahead of Milan.

My MoM: Filippo Inzaghi. At 33 years and with Gilardino breathing down his shoulder for the lead striker’s role, this guy sure showed how a true-blue striker should make the best out of fortune and skills.
