Milestone IV

Being busy sure is dull! Stuck in the same ol’ rut called workplace and can hardly take out time for anything else!

But yeah, the past days had some  glorious happy moments and one of them was to see My Weird Wired World notch up the 400,000 hits statistic. June 4th was when the 3 Lakh mark was touched and the gallop to 4 lakh has sure been somewhat quicker. Though not as metronomic as some other blogs, it sure is encouraging.

A big thanks to all the diligent visitors, readers, commenters and supporters. Those numbers are of you, by you, for me

Wondering why I’m listing out such inane translations for what are mostly “American” words? Well, coz that’s how our Murli Prasad Sharma a.k.a. Munna Bhai and Sarkeshwar a.k.a Circuit are trying to learn the “Amrikan bhasha” :D . These are probably the movie’s lines and I’ve taken them from the promotional poster of the 3rd instalment in the Munna Bhai series of movies – Munna Bhai Chale Amerika.

Movie Review: Dasvidaniya

Dasvidaniya or Dostana? Gay comedy or emotional feel-good drama? Three super-hunks of Bollywood with a hot-looking heroine or an ensemble art movie-esque cast? Mega production house movie with a debutante director or a fledgling but creative production house movie with a debutante director? That was the sorta dilemma I was in almost all of Friday…the mind was saying Dostana but the heart was plumping for Dasvidaniya. In the end, (I hate to say this) like in that Tata Indicom suckerpuss ads, I followed my heart and chose Dasvidaniya.

Dasvidaniya

Dasvidaniya – meaning Goodbye in Russian (or maybe the best goodbye ever) – is a bittersweet comedy featuring Vinay Pathak as the protagonist Amar Kaul who’s dull but meticulous life is dealt a serious blow when he’s diagnosed with stomach cancer and pronounced to have just three months left to live. Initial despair turns into a steely determination to accomplish his long-cherished goals – courtesy a chance encounter in the bar with Ranvir Shorey and Amar’s own inner voice (dressed in Ranvir’s clothes that too!). He buys his first car, tries his hand at flirting, starts taking guitar lessons, yells at his overbearing boss, meets his childhood and teenage sweetheart and bares his feelings to her, flies to a foreign land to meet his childhood buddy and even gets laid with a Russian hooker! The hardest tasks relegated to the end are patching up with his brother and letting his Mumma know about his situation.

Third Year…

Oops! I almost forgot! My Wierd Wired World has completed a pretty decent three years of its run the last week. And as a good wine, it is growing good as it ages…even if I say so myself

Three Years

And even though the regularity has decreased and the mundanity (er…for lack of a better word) has increased, I still find it as an outlet for my expressions but not for the really personal kind. I kinda indulge in ranting about those to myself in my own MindBlog! Anyways, a big thanks to all the regular and irregular visitors and commentators (or should it be commentors?) who’ve been visiting this blog…either through bookmarks or via search results.

Happy Birthday to MWWW

Ghajini Website

“Remember” – now this is a word one can readily associate with Ghajini – the movie. Given the lead character’s short term memory loss, he has to remember lotsa things. And the promos have also been asking the viewers to remember the release date – December 25. So its no big surprise that the official website of the movie has been modelled on the remember keyword! The official website of the movie Ghajini is http://www.RememberGhajini.com. Pretty cool, huh? Moreso since the Ghajini.com domain has already been taken up by a cyber squatter and web site names such as ghajinithemovie.com and ghajinithefilm.com sound pretty mundane.

Ghajini Website

As of now, the site just contains the theatrical trailer and the media invite page wherein media persons are required to upload a pic alongwith  their details so that in the press conference, Aamir can identify them easily! He has short term memory loss remember

Movie Review: Quantum of Solace

‘So less’ of Quantum. That ought to sum it up nicely. The much vaunted and so-anonymous-that-MI6-doesn’t-know-it-exists super criminal organization, which I suppose will be the pool from which all future Bond Villains will arise from, is mentioned just once in the whole movie. Maybe it was just a curtain raiser and we’ll get to know more of it in other upcoming instalments. I guess it is modelled on the lines of S.M.E.R.S.H and S.C.E.P.T.R.E from the 70′s and 80′s era of Bond Movies.

Quantum Of Solace Anyways, am just back from the screening of the 22nd James Bond Movie – Quantum of Solace, starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Olga Kurylenko and Mathieu Amalric, amongst others. And its no coincidence that I mention Judi Dench second in that list; for she has got a considerable role in this movie and essays it with aplomb. It may not be fair to categorize Olga as a Bond girl coz there’s just one kiss between her and Bond and  share no more than a car seat. Mathieu Amalric is sufficiently sinister at times but again, is a very feeble Bond Villain…a general in the Quantum army, so as to say. His and the organization’s motive – broker a coup in Bolivia in return for a seemingly barren piece of land which eventually turns out to be a natural source of water – is slightly bizarre, if not overtly stupid! The  star of the show is obviously Daniel Craig who carries on with the same grittiness and gut-wrench-iness from Casino Royale. Seething with rage and blinded with revenge, he shoots, stabs and pushes his way across the links leading out of Vesper’s betrayal and sacrifice, much to the chagrin of M.

Guzarish Video from Ghajini

Seen the theatrical trailer of Ghajini? Remember the lilting beats in the background (before the action kicks-in)? The beats are from the song Guzarish, the video of which was released just a while ago. I didn’t catch it on any of the TV channels but happened to watch it at IndiaFM (a.k.a Bollywood Hungama)

Ghajini Guzarish Song

Asin and Aamir Khan in the song Guzarish, from the movie Ghajini

The song’s kinda nice (well, one gets to hear just about a minute of it!) and I have a sneaky feeling its sung by either Srinivas or Javed Ali. You music geeks out there have a better idea? Put it forward! If you wanna watch the vid, head over to IndiaFM or just catch any of the YT vids floating about. One’s here after the jump…
