Movie Review: Angels & Demons

After what seems like ages (but was 2 weeks exactly) the much-awaited Angels & Demons hits the screens in India; only single screens though, no multiplexes…though how Prasadz counts as a single-screen-theatre beats me! Anyways, the movie’s kinda worth the wait and is a thrill-a-minute roller coaster ride. Well, not exactly thrill-a-minute since there are few scenes filled with long-drawn speeches and explanations. of the happenings in the past, goings-on of the present and expected events in the near-future.

Angels And Demons

Simply put, the Vatican has just lost its Pope to death and amidst the Conclave to choose the successor, it emerges that an old enemy – The Illuminati – has resurfaced and wants revenge. Death awaits the four preferiti or the preferred cardinals, each of them at four churches symbolized by the four basal elements – Earth, Air, Fire & Water. Added to that, there’s an anti-matter-bomb waiting to explode at the end of it all. Much against its wishes, the Church approaches Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) to help solve the mystery, and to balance the lead cast on the sexual scale, there’s Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zuerer), the scientist overlooking the LHC Project from where the Anti Matter was stolen from. Together they dig into the Vatican Archives, unearth seemingly invisible clues, trace the subtly hidden paths across Rome and attempt to save the four kidnapped cardinals and also save the area from being wiped off by an “explosion equivalent to 5 Megatons ofsomething’

…and its Barcelona!

FC Barcelona are the winners of the 2009 UEFA Champions League.

FC Barcelona - Treble Winners

They beat holders Manchester United 2-0 to win their third Champions League trophy and cap a memorable year in which they won the La Liga as well as the Copa del Rey. The two goals were scored by Samuel Eto’o (10th minute) and Lionel Messi (70th minute) but the game was won from the midfield – Xavi and Andres Iniesta being huge! United’s midfield was less effective and they simply couldn’t string together a decent attack.

Both teams have now won three trophies this season – World Club Championship, Carling Cup and Premier League for Manchester United and La Liga, Copa del Rey and now, the Champions League. The last one is the biggest of them all and Man U will have to wait another year to lay their hands on that…

Phew! That brings to an end a humdinger of a soccer season (well, there’s the FA Cup Final yet but that’s going to Chelsea anyway!)…bring on the French Open, World T20, Wimbledon and The Ashes!

UCL Final’s just a few moments away…

Manchester United Vs. Barcelona

It just doesn’t get any bigger than this! Two of Europe’s greatest football clubs take centrestage in one of Europe’s greatest city of Rome in what is being labelled as the greatest football match! Okay…enough of greatness…

But the winner is destined for Greatness, that’s for sure. Manchester United can win their second successive UCL trophy and their fourth overall – earning them the right to retain it. Barcelona are looking for their third UCL trophy and are aiming to become the first Spanish team to complete the treble of the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions Cup.

I’m looking forward to what promises to be an exciting football match. I want Manchester United to win but one can never discount Barcelona! Bring.It.On!

My Prediction: 2-1 to Barcelona

[Un]welcome Showers!

Calvin in the Rain

I’m confused! I don’t know whether to be happy that the rains have helped bring down the sweltering heat a little or to be angry that they managed to drench me and also were responsible for the no-power situation! In case you didn’t know yet…it rained today evening in Hyderabad…heavily…and there was no power until a few minutes ago!

Winding the clock a few hours back…I was bang in the middle of the road (on the divider, actually) on the busy JHCP – LVP road, with traffic flowing on either side when the heavens opened up! It was either risk-the-oncoming-vehicles-and-make-a-mad-dash-for-cover or stay-put-twiddle-your-thumbs-and-get-wet scenario. And to to make matters worse, the rain was getting heavier and so was the traffic flow! Throwing caution to the winds, I scampered back to office and sat around waiting for it to abate…and drafted this post [I can’t post images from there, so had to complete it from home].

P.S: That strip is just the sorta scenario I was in…as I was scampering back, a mischievous colleague remarked boasted how he’ll take a lift from the boss and thus can cosy up at home sooner than me

Bah!

Have EMail, Will Post!

Lemme see…

  • There’s a major system overhaul in progress and all I have on my notebook is the OS & Outlook (nope, no browsers..not even IE!) and am connected to the Web via LAN. i get this unsuppressable urge to blog. Can I do it?
  • I get gifted an iPhone! I snap up some pretty pics with it but can’t wait to show them to people. Can’t wait till I connect the phone to the notebook, transfer the pics and then post’em onto my blog. How am I gonna do that?
  • I receive an amazing email forward that just HAS TO BE SHARED with others. Sure, I can ‘forward’ the forward but it will sit in the inbox of people, idle and feeling unwanted! Best way is to post it on moi blog…but then I’ve to save the images locally, then re-upload them onto WP and write out (or copy-paste) all the text therein. Time taking and boring! Is there an easier way out?

YES! WordPress now has introduced the much-awaited and uber-useful “Post By Email” Feature….[Official Announcement] [How-to Page]

Of course, Blogger has had it for quite a while now but its good that even WP has it. Agreed, all of us have browsers and other blogging tools at our disposal (Windows Live Writer, for one) but isn’t it nice to be able to post a blog just by sending an email! Can be done from anywhere, anytime and with mobile internet being oh-so-prevalent, one doesn’t need even a PC/Notebook for that! Cool, isn’t it

And yeah, this post was er…um…posted from GMail!

‘09 Spanish Grand Prix – Saturday Qualifying- Jenson Button takes pole position

Jenson Button drove an awesome lap at the last possible minute of the Qualifying Session to clinch pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya. All the talk of resurgence from the other teams paled in comparison as the Brawn GP team picked up where they left off – at the top of the timesheets again! And one won’t believe there was any resurgence at all if one were to see the second and third placed drivers – Sebastian Vettel & Rubens Barrichello. A mini-resurgence can be said to be taking place at Ferrari as their pace improved considerably, but not their decision making skills! Felipe Massa will start 4th on the grid while teammate Kimi Raikkonen will start 16th! Mark Webber, Timo Glock, Jarno Trulli, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg and Robert Kubica rounded off the top ten.

Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying

As usual, the two Force India cars got the first qualifying session underway and joining them was the McLaren of Heikki Kovalainen. Early pace setters included the Toyotas of Jarno Trulli & Timo Glock and the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel – who was the first driver to get into the 1 Min 20s. The fastest time of them all though, went to the Ferrari of Felipe Massa with Mark Webber and Jenson Button just behind. The shocker, of course, came from Ferrari as they let Kimi Raikkonen sit in the garage when he was just 10th fastest and then saw with dread as others went round faster and just as the clock ticked 00:00 on Q1, he was knocked out of the session! He will start 16th on the grid tomorrow. Joining him would be compatriot Heikki Kovalainen (who complained that a BMW held him up), Sebastian Bourdais, Adrian Sutil & Giancarlo Fisichella.
