The most-awaited movie of the year, (discounting X-Men III, Superman Returns i.e) Ron Howard's The Da Vinci Code,starring Tom Hanks,is gonna be premiered at Cannes today in the 'Out-of-competition' section. Though the official release date of the movie is two days away, i.e. 19th May, the screening will make it known how the movie has shaped up and how the audience will receive it! The movie is scheduled to release simultaneously in India as well and PVR Cinemas is going all out to promote the movie in a, well, big way! But they still haven't opened up the online booking for it! Needless to say that there will be madcap rush for the tickets as and when they are made available….Hyderabadis are movie-crazy and when the movie in question is a theatrical representation of a best-seller & controversial novel, the excitement doubles up! But the release is in doubt though! More on that later…..

Meanwhile, in india, the movie has run into rough weather even before it has released with the Information & Broadcasting Ministry announcing that it will decide on the release of the movie. Acording to MoneyControl.com , the Goa government is deliberating upon passing a resolution to ban the movie release!
For the time being, its release has been put on hold by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry till it is first viewed by authorities from the Catholic Bishops Conference of India on May 18.
Meanwhile, the Censor Board of India, which decides on the movies to be released, has passed the movie for release without a cut! Though it is now 'A' certified and with a disclaimer that it "is a work of fiction and bears no resemblance…..blah blah" ! Read the news story related to that here.
