FIFA World Cup 2006 – Day 8

Day Eight of the FIFA World Cup 2006 was one of the most memorable one, atleast for Argentina fans and their supporters. Can't say the same for the Serbia & Montenegro players or supporters though! The match of the day was undoubtedly the 6-0 trashing of the Serbs by Argentina. A brace from Maxi Rodriguez and one goal each from Crespo, Cambiasso, Carlos Tevez & Lionel Messi sealed the comprehensive win. It was a shame for me to have missed the match, but I caught the replay and it was one helluva match!

The other superlative match of the day was played out between Ivory Coast and the Netherlands. The game saw three goals being scored, all of them coming in the first half! Robin Van Persie scored the first with a superb free-kick and Ruud Van Nistelrooy doubled the dutch lead in the 27th minute. Not to be outdone, the Ivory Coast players rallied around and in the 38th minute, B. Kone struck a superb goal from just out of the D! Ivory Coast  pressed hard for an equaliser but the Dutch held on for a 2-1 win and with it, sealed a place in the next round. For the Ivory Coast, their trip has ended, with two defeats, but they'll return with their heads held-high after a bravura performance. The third match of the day was a dull 0-0 draw between Mexico and Angola, which I did not see at all.

  1. I am glad you did not see that match , it was boring day to watch, hopefull today we get to see real football by brazilians.

i guess brazilians are the winners of the world cup inspite of poor performance in the first match

  2. I hope England or Italy would be the champs this time around
