The two teams atop the leaderboard of the English Premier League kept their positions and difference intact with wins but the 2nd & 3rd placed teams had to endure draws to slip further behind the leaders. Leaders Manchester United kept intact their 6 point lead over Chelsea with a 4-0 drubbing of Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea had earlier won 1-0 against Charlton on saturday to close the gap to 3 points. Third-placed Liverpool missed an opportunity to steer six points clear of Arsenal when the drew 0-0 against Everton. Arsenal were lucky to have salvaged a draw when defeat looked certain against Middlesborough. Thierry Henry slotted in a 87th minute goal to secure a 1-1 draw.
Man U were slow off the blocks against Spurs and opened the scoring only in the 45th minute courtesy a spot-kick taken by Christiano Ronaldo. Vidic, Scholes and Giggs were the other goal-scorers as Man U upped the pace and secured a hefty win. That was the only match I could watch on a balmy Sunday with me being on the road for most of the time!
P.S: Also read that Australia beat New Zealand and South Africa beat Pakistan in some ODI action that I missed !
