Woe! Chelsea lost in the first semi-final of the UEFA Champions League day before yesterday and now Manchester United bit the dust in the second second semi-final yesterday. Whats with the top-two teams in the EPL getting beaten at the semi-final stage of the UCL? Does the Premiership dogfight take so much outta the players that they find in mentally and physically draining to give their best in other tournaments?
AC Milan handed out a 3-0 drubbing to Manchester United at the San Siro in their second leg semi-final thus overturning a 2-3 first-leg deficit. In a wet, rainy and gloomy atmosphere, Milan were the better team as Man U never took to the conditions and were kinda lost – both in attack and defense! By halftime Milan were two goals ahead – courtesy Kaka and Seedorf – and the fact that United’s best chance came in the 62nd minute shows how tethered they were. Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs et al were ineffective in attach while the defense also failed to find their feet (literally) and gave away some easy goals. Gilardino made it 3-0 in the 77th minute and ensured that Milan get a repeat of the 2004/05 UCL final against Liverpool. That match was won in dramatic fashion by Liverpool and Milan will be awaiting a fitful revenge. May the best team (Milan?) win!
