Late News: IRCTC sells Air Tickets too!

IRCTC

It’s been doing this since December 2009 but I came to know today itself! What, you ask?

Well, IRCTC (The Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation), the online ticketing provider for the Indian Railways has started its sub-portal, through which one can now buy Airline Tickets as well! And its not just to the fancy tourism n’ pilgrimage places. But to several of the minor and major cities in India.

http://air.irctc.co.in/

The interface is a bit clunky and the search results are all cluttered together. And do they employ 15 year olds to do their html coding etc? Coz the results page is filled with blinking-AND-coloured-text! At least they don’t have that glittery trail following the cursor (my 1990’s Geocities page used to have that:mrgreen: )

If any of you peeps have booked air tickets through this AIR IRCTC website, do post in your experiences in the comments. Tx.

  1. Hmm interesting… Earlier I was thinking that they’d be booking tickets only for Indian, but they are booking for many others too..

    • Yep. And the fare difference is not much as compared to ClearTrip or MakeMyTrip etc. Only the interface and user journeys need a lot of sprucing up!

I wonder if there’ll be some sort of discount for train+flight fares?

  2. Interesting! I didnt know it!

  3. But price is high in comparison to other websites

  4. I have just booked a ticket for LKO-DLI and it was perfect as the railways booking on the irctc. I don’t know when you all have used that but this time its working perfect.🙂

  5. I am extremely satisfied with IRCTC train ticket booking system but I have a bitter experience with IRCTC-air. I had booked a ticket vide PNR NO. B6WN8L from Delhi to Bagdogra on 12/5/2010 for GOAIR flight. Later, I cancelled this ticket on 14/5/2010.

    1. since then I am still waiting for refund. Despite my several reminder to the customer service cell, I have not received any positive response so far. because address of top official of IRCTC-air has not been mentioned anywhere in website for contact or clarification, I am unable to do much in this regard. customer service cell have lack of knowledge on the relevent products.

    2. IRCTC-air toll free no.1800 3000 9900 is very irractic. when you want to connect customer service cell, the lines will be disconnected automatically during conversation.

    3. IRCTC-air claims 10% cash back and cash back amount will be refunded next day. it is absolutely wrong. first, booking through IRCTC is 10-12% more expensive than booking through directly airlines’ website. This excess amount, is refunded by IRCTC as a cash back offer. I had booked the abovesaid ticket on Rs 5949.12 through IRCTC and on the same flight/same day the actual price on GOAIR flight was Rs 5427.00 only. Can you calculate how much amount, I got as a cash back offer. second, cash back amount will be refunded in your account after 7-8 working days and if you have cancelled your ticket, then there is not a fixed date. I am still waiting for refund more than 40 days.

IRCTC-AIR official look into the matter ?

  6. Hi Guys,

Did you hear the latest news: IRCTC will not allow their agents to book rail tickets on their portal. I am wondering what will be the outcome. There are more than a lakh agents who do so many bookings for the customers who do not have any internet access or any credit card. How will the rural guys do the booking. I feel this will bring in a lot of corruption again into the system. Also the internet penetration being so low in India how many ppl will book tickets online. Its not a good business move. I think IRCTC should allow both the agent and end customer to co-exist. Personally juss wondering should i explore the waters during tatkal to book tickets for my family.

  7. I ask a very simple question is why does government think that only consumers are suffering, even agents are suffering, No Tatkal Tickets, the website http://www.irctc.co.in after agent login is always Crashing, all agents are taking the burden of TDR cost has to be bourne by agent which is refunded to customer immediately but after 90 days to agent, to book a normal ticket also their website is very slow, the printed ticket has in correct information causing a lot of trouble for the customer, refunds of tickets are done very late. What problem the customer have the agent also have, making agents the scapegoat Is not a solution rather improve/change the website system to make the experience more efficient.

  8. I suppose IRCTC is just ruining the life of the those to whom they had provided a means to earn a living, these agents were authorized agents for booking rail tickets. Ticket booking was the only source of income for many of these agents, through which they used to earn & feed their families. this is just pathetic by IRCTC.
There is no Point in introducing new services whern they cannot handle one service efficiently…

  9. I have an IRCTC account which is locked second time.
When i tried to reset the password through forget password link, it asks User id, question and Answer. I provided all the details and it throws an error “Answer is Incorrect”. This happend second time and both the times i tried to login through the actual password.
I waited for a week and there was no response from IRCTC customer care. I called them up on 24 Hrs. Customer Support at 011-23340000 and it took about 12 calls to make them understand about the issue. When ever i called up the customer support the person attnding the call will redirect me to someone else after listening to my detail and again i need to explain whole story, inshort that was waste of time and money.
I sent an email at care@irctc.co.in also submit at http://www.consumercourt.in/railways/14030-irctc-login.html and got an automated email as Ticket Confirmation for the request.
IRCTC should hire service and satisfaction oriented support executives so that it a common man has no pain of wasting time and money.

    Can someone please help me.

  10. “From today IRCTC has stopped online booking of I Ticket. As per their website it has been done due to some technical reasons. But the actual reason is, very poor service by the courier company Blazeflash Couriers. Inspite of this, Blazeflash Courier has not been blacklisted by IRCTC.”
