United States Grand Prix – Sunday Race

Michael Schumacher TriumphsMichael Schumacher won his third race of the season at the Indianapolis Speedway on Sunday to keep his chances for the Formula One Drivers’ Championship title alive and kicking. He led a Ferrari 1-2 finish with teammate Felipe Massa finishing 8 seconds behind. Renault had a lacklustre day as Giancarlo Fisichella finished third behind the two Ferraris and Champion Fernando Alonso only managing 5th place! If you remember, last year neither of the Michelin-runners drove at Indianapolis due to tyre problems and it was just a Six-Car race back then! I feel that this time also the Michelins could not provide the kind of assistance needed to win the race for the Renaults. The Bridgestones on the Ferraris worked wonders and both of them lapped considerably quicker than the others.

If Ferrari & Michael Schumacher hogged the limelight at the end of the race, the start of the race was no less than dramatic! In a fantastic chain-reaction pile-up, no less than 8 cars were involved in a scrap right at the start of the race! It all seemed to start when Juan Pablo Montoya rammed into the back of McLaren teammate Kimi Raikkonen who in turn shunted Jenson Button. Button had nowhere to go other than into the back of Nick Hiedfeld, who did some spectacular cartwheels and ended up in the gravel trap!Scott Speed was also caught in the melee and retired from the race.In a separate incident further down the field, Mark Webber’s Williams was launched into the air in a tangle with Red Bull’s Christian Klien and the Super Aguri of Franck Montagny, leaving all three out of the race. The Melee at the StartThese incidents along-with a few other retirements ensured that only Nine drivers finished the US GP. Toro Rosso and Vitantonio Liuzzi scored their first points as Liuzzi managed to pass Nico Rosberg into 9th position and automatically gained a place-and a point- when Ralf Schumacher retired from 5th place! Jarno Trulli finished 4th, ahead of Fernando Alonso while Barrichello, Coulthard and Liuzzi took 6th, 7th and 8th places respectively!

The result now sees the gap between Michael & Alonso down to 19 points while Renault have a 26 point advantage over Ferrari in the Constructors race. The next race of the season is now in France and it remains to be seen if Renault can regroup and forge further ahead or will Ferrari, with their new-found pace and reliability will manage yet another win!

Timestamps in Notepad

Via Sanket’s MSDN Blog

Lot of times, we use the Notepad to quickly write down some points. Notepad offers a really nice feature for such users.Imagine Notepad automatically appending the timestamp every time you open it to write some info…..

Take a look at this –

1. Create a blank text file with .LOG as the first line of the file, followed by a carriage return. Save the file with any .txt extension.

2. Double-click the file to open it and notice that Notepad appends the current date and time to the end of the file and places the cursor on the line after.

3. Type your notes and then save and close the file.

Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process, appending the time and date to the end of the file and placing the cursor below it.

While digging on the net about this nifty little tip, I chanced upon this additional article from Microsoft’s Knowledge base:

Microsoft Notepad is a word processing tool included with Windows and is installed by default under the Accessories program group. You can use it to create a log-type file that adds the current date and time each time the Notepad file is opened. This article describes how to create a log file with Notepad.
To create a log file in Notepad:

  • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad.
  • Type .LOG on the first line, and then press ENTER to move to the next line.
  • On the File menu, click Save As, type a descriptive name for your file in the File name box, and then click OK.
  • When you next open the file, note that the date and time have been appended to the end of the log, immediately preceding the place where new text can be added.
  • You can use this functionality to automatically add the current date and time to each log entry.
