HP & the GoF.

Cannot believe that I wasted 180 bucks on as lame a flick as this!!! I was never a big fan of HP but the first & third ones were kinda enthralling. 2nd one was a dud I felt. Same can be said of the fourth one.

Can understand that most fans loved the move and the box-office results reflect that. But hidden among the euphoria are many Disgruntled voices of genuine fans who lamented the short length of the move and chopping of many scenes from the book.

To start with, my chief grouse with the movie is the pace of the flick. At times it was too pacy & at times, it was dragging. Not Riveting stuff at all!!! Too many loose ends were left and many Q's were left unanswered. To those who read the book, it may have made sense; but to non-HP-readers like me, it would be baloney! Some of the missed thingz were:

  • What happened at the QWC? Why?
  • Who killed Crouch Sr. (Tho it's obvious, was never mentioned)
  • Why did Sirius turn up as a Flaming stuff?
  • How come Dumbledore did'nt come to know Moody's Goblet Antics?
  • How did HP escape Voldy?
  • Why did Voldy remain Quiet after that?
  • Why did HP not tell that Lucius was a DeathEater?

Added to this was the patchy characterization. Krum was left in the cold.Lucius,Hagrid,Snape,Skeeter et al 's screen time was hardly 5 mins. Despite the harping on the flick being a coming-of-age one, the emotions displayed by the lead characters were plastic & cold. Harry's crush was shown rather goofily! And so was his embarassing scene with Myrtle. only Hermoine & Ron's banter seemed beleivable. The jealousy between Ron & Harry was here-now-gone-next.  Even the tasks for the tournament were not-that-exciting. Except for the Underwater Escapades. The Maze was a Non-starter. Where was all the " People-change-in-the-maze" thingy???

All in all, a badly-made movie which may appeal to most but not all! Already I hear some people praising Cristopher Columbus' direction as well as clamours to get Peter Jackson (of LOTR Fame) to Direct the next flicks 😉

  1. Nice comments on the potty flicks. Not everything can be screened in the movies, the movie has a standard time schedule or limit. So producers and directors cut it into a more compact form and shoot later after the full shooting for the DVD deleted scenes. They do shoot explanations towards the exhilarating end in the GOF.
